The role of a freight forwarder is to facilitate the transport of goods across borders, by taking care of all logistical formalities and procedures. The freight forwarder coordinates shipments, manages customs documents, organizes transport and supervises transit operations.

The main difference between a forwarder and a freight forwarder lies in their role and legal responsibility. A forwarder acts as a logistical intermediary on behalf of his customer, managing the administrative and operational aspects of international transport. By contrast, a freight forwarder acts in his own name and assumes legal responsibility for the shipment. He buys and sells goods on behalf of third parties, incurring his own financial and legal liability.

The term "forwarder" refers to a company specializing in international transport and logistics. A freight forwarder acts as an intermediary between shippers (exporters) and receivers (importers), taking care of the organization, coordination and management of goods shipments.

Customs is a government authority responsible for controlling the movement of goods across borders and enforcing customs regulations, including the collection of customs duties. Transit, on the other hand, refers to the transportation of goods through one or more transit countries on their way to their final destination. Transit generally involves specific formalities and procedures to ensure the smooth and orderly passage of goods from one country to another, in compliance with current customs regulations.
